Mystic Hill and Natural Medicinal Plants – Agastyar Koodam
Agastyarkoodam (Kudam Agastyar or Agastya malai) is a 1868 meters (6129 feet) in the western peak Ghats of South India. The mountain is located on the border of the Indian states of Kerala (in Kollam and Thiruvananthapuram District) and Tamil Nadu (in Tirunelveli). The river Thamiarabarni perennial stems from this hill and flows in Tirunelveli district of Tamil Nadu.
Agastya Malai is the center of pilgrimage for devotees of the Hindu sage Agasthya, which is considered one of the seven rishis (Saptarishi) from Hindu Puranas. The Tamil language is considered as a favor Agasthya. There is a life-size statue of Agasthya at the top of the peak and the devotees Bidding offered there.
This tropical evergreen forest is the home of two hundred rare species of plants. From the grass kisses cast huge trees and countless species of animals including elephants, lion tailed monkeys, bears, leopards, etc tiger spider, also rare species of frog are in Agastyarkudam. Full of many species of orchids (as Druri) rare medicinal plants, is an invaluable treasure of nature. From the pristine purity vegetation originates Karamanayar, Kothayar Thamaraparni and three major rivers in the district of Trivandrum.
A haven of rare herbs and medicinal plants its slopes offer a breathtaking view when they become colors of the “Neelakurinji ‘a flower that blooms once in twelve years.
Herbs and Medicinal Plants Agasyar Koodam
The lower elevations of this peak are also known for its abundance of rare herbs and medicinal plants. About 2,000 medicinal plants used in Ayurvedic treatments can be found here. Europeans, particularly those from England, were the first to establish tea plantations around base stations in Brimore Agasthyarkoodam, Bonacaud and Ponmudi. The Agasthyamalai Biosphere Reserve is home to flora and fauna.
Agastyar Koodam Adventures
The koodam Agastyar is a popular place for trekking. The mountain is shaped like a cone of acute and walkers can enjoy the spirit more in climbing it. The ideal time for trekking is from December to January.
The trekking route is surrounded by breathtaking scenery. Meadows and streams, forests cane, `bonsai’-trees cling to hillsides, the lonely walk through the woods … The only sounds you hear during the trek are the rustle of the trees, gurgling streams of water, the sudden “” song of a thousand crickets chirping in unison and the sweet bird!

Agastya Malai is located 32 km from Neyyar dam. The great city and the airport nearest to Agastya Malai is Thiruvananthapuram (Trivandrum) and Trivandrum International Airport Center, about 61 km away. The station Nearest train Ambasamudram Tirunelveli District in Tamil Nadu.
