About bonsai tree seeds and seed germination _INSTRUCTIONS

It is important to maintain the freshness of the seeds to facilitate germination appropriate. That’s why the store all our seeds in a dedicated refrigerator for this purpose. Therefore, in order to preserve freshness until you are ready to begin the germination process, you can store the seeds purchased in the plastic bag we have provided. You can place the seeds in the crisper of your refrigerator.

About germination instructions:

Once you are ready for seed germination, you have two (2) germination methods: natural or forced germination germination.

Natural germination: Sow seeds outside in autumn. Hibernate seeds achieved all necessary natural processes seeds require to germinate. Next spring, you should have sprouts.

With forced germination, which are by the germination process artificially. Therefore, you must follow the steps below. Each seed is different. However, most of them require three (3) steps. Some may require more, while others may require less. These steps include scarification, stratification and planting.

1 – Scarification

Each seed has a shell around the interior in vivo. Some are harder than others. The aim of scarification process is to soften the skin and allow the water reaches the inside of the seed. You scarify the seeds by placing them in water, usually a glass or a bowl, for a period of four (24) to forty-eight (48) hours. The rule seems to be the use of warm water. Some seeds require boiling water while others require water at room temperature. Normally, viable seeds will drown after twenty-four (24) one-hour period, while others float on the top. If there are still seeds floating after the forty-eight (48) hour period, you can discard them since they are empty seeds. Once you are ready to begin the next step (Please note that some seeds require you to go directly to the third stage).

Stratification 2 – Cold

The next step is the cold stratification period. This step is where all the magic of nature occurs. In nature, most of the fall tree seeds in autumn. Consequently, seeds overwinter in colder temperature permitting the chemical in the seeds to develop and activate the germination process until the ideal temperature is reached in spring. In the forced germination process, attempts to recreate the winter period. To carry out this process, use the following materials:

Ziplock plastic bag
A paper towel
Water

Fold the paper towel in two and moisten with water. Not be entirely wet, but moist. Place the seeds on damp paper towel and fold over the seeds. Place the paper towel with the seeds in ziplock plastic bag and store in your refrigerator for a variable period of thirty (30) one hundred twenty (120) days. We suggest you check your seeds every thirty (30) days in order to prevent putrefaction and allows for proper air circulation. Also check sprouts. If this is the case, take the seeds germinated and proceed to the next step. If not, wait the time and then move to the next step.

3 – Seeding

Planting can be done on the ground or in a pot. Use any type of suitable land for planting and cultivation. Make a small opening in the floor (about half (2.1) one inch deep), place the seed in the opening and covered with a few millimeters soil. Keep the soil moist.

Extra steps for certain species

If you choose to germinate their seeds through the forced germination process, You may be asked to take this extra step. This step is carried out before the cold stratification. All you have to do is expose the seeds at room temperature for (30) to ninety (90) days. This is called heat stratification and is accomplished by leaving the seeds exposed on a plaque on his desk. After you have made this step, you resume with cold stratification.
